Rockets in Cape Canaveral and some fun in Orlando…

After a few days in Fernandina Beach we headed off again on a gentle passage to Cape Canaveral, home of the rocket launches that we were so hoping to see. A few years earlier we had done the platinum tour around the Kennedy Space Center ending on the bleachers next to the countdown clock as a Space X launch counted down, only for it to be scrapped at 0 seconds, much to our disappointment. We decided to stop into Cape Canaveral to a really cool anchorage located 4 miles directly in front of the NASA Assembly building, and the Space X launch pad and hoped for better luck this time round.

And luck we got. We woke the kids up just before 11pm on the night and watched the countdown commentary then headed onto the bow of the boat for an awesome display. The whole night lit up as the launch started and then about 20 seconds later the entire boat started shaking as the sound waves hit us. It was an extraordinary show of the power that these things create, only made even more amazing by the fact that it landed again on its barge about 9 minutes later. (which we then saw coming back into the port the next day!) Totally blessed that over the past few weeks we have been lucky enough to see 4 launches now, and although we hadn’t planned on being stuck in Cape Canaveral for nearly 3 weeks, that was definitely the upside of being in that location!

We also took a moment as a large storm came through and left the boat safe in a marina and headed to Disneyworld for a few days in Orlando - we took the kids to Hollywood studios which was amazing and had a few days off the boat in a hotel. Despite the appalling rains that joined us, we had a great time and came back refreshed and ready to continue heading south!
